Director, State Outreach
The Nuclear Energy Institute is currently seeking an experienced director to advocate for NEI’s interests directly with Governors, State Legislators and other state and local government officials.
This position is responsible for providing accurate, persuasive and timely information to state and local policymakers, assisting grassroots/grasstops and coalition activities, and providing assistance to the nuclear industry and member companies with regard to state and local issues. In collaboration with the Senior Director, this position will serve as a primary NEI point of contact and source of nuclear industry information to the nation’s 50 Governors and 7,300 State Legislators and their staffs, as well as other state constitutional officers and key county and municipal officials. He or she will also maintain thorough working knowledge of all relevant state and local government-specific ramifications of federal energy policy. Through direct personal interaction with key national, regional and partisan Governors’ and State Legislators’ organizations, he or she will increase these groups’ knowledge of and embrace of nuclear industry priorities.
The ideal candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; an advanced degree is helpful. In addition to educational requirements, the incumbent must have five years of policy development and advocacy experience with state governments and legislatures, industry, or the executive branch with particular emphasis in energy, environmental and trade issues desired. He or she must possess excellent verbal and written communications skills, with strong consensus building skills being essential.
