DID YOU KNOW?

Employees working at U.S. nuclear plants are paid 36 percent more on average than other  people in their local communities.

QUOTABLE:

"Energy could be one of the most significant economic drivers for the next two decades. The benefits of such expansion are staggering when one considers the labor force and supply chain needed for construction and operation of power plants, transmission grids and environmental compliance technology on fossil-fueled power plants."

Economic Benefits of New Plants

Employees_Economic BenefitsNuclear plants are expanding the U.S. economy through direct spending in local communities and in tax payments to federal, state and local governments, which benefit local infrastructure such as schools. Building new nuclear plants will create thousands of new, high-paying jobs for Americans and prepare the nation for a clean energy future.

Contributions of the Average Nuclear Plant

  • employs up to 3,500 people during construction
  • employs 400 to 700 people long-term at salaries typically 36 percent higher than average salaries in the local area
  • produces approximately $470 million annually in sales of goods and services in the local community
  • provides annual state and local tax revenue of more than $16 million, which benefits schools, roads and other state and local infrastructure
  • provides annual federal tax payments of $67 million
  • stimulates the U.S. supply chain through purchases of commodities like steel, concrete and thousands of electrical components
  • generates the lowest cost electricity among other major U.S. energy sources, such as coal, natural gas and petroleum.
