Summary

  • Estimated U.S. nuclear generation in February 2014 was 62.2 billion kWh, compared to 61.5 billion kWh for the same period in 2013. The average estimated capacity factor for February 2014 was 96.0 percent compared to 92.3 percent in February 2013. Year-to-date 2014 nuclear generation is 1.5 percent higher than the same period in 2013.
  • For the first two months of the year, the 65 pressurized water reactors achieved an average capacity factor of 96.5 percent compared to 94.6 percent for the 35 boiling water reactors.
  • During the Spring 2014 refueling outage season, an estimated 38 reactors are planning to refuel compared to 32 reactors that refueled in Spring 2013.
