Summary

  • Estimated U.S. nuclear generation in May 2014 was 62.8 billion kWh, just slightly less than the same period in 2013. The average estimated capacity factor for May 2014 was 87.5 percent compared to 85.2 percent in May 2013.
  • Year-to-date 2014 nuclear generation was 0.3 percent higher than the same period in 2013. The average capacity factor for the first five months was 88.1 percent compared to 87.8 percent for the same period in 2013. In 2014, boiling water reactors had an average capacity factor of 90.2 percent compared to 87.8 percent for pressurized water reactors.
  • As of June 25, only two units were currently in refueling outages while 39 units have completed their Spring refueling. Thirty one units refueled in Spring 2013.
