WASHINGTON—The White House today nominated Dr. Gregory Jaczko, science adviser to Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, and Dr. Peter B. Lyons, professional staff member on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, as commissioners at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Following is a statement from Joe F. Colvin, the Nuclear Energy Institute’s president and chief executive officer, on the appointments.
“The industry is pleased that the White House has taken action to fill two vacant commissioner positions at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
“We look forward to working with both Greg Jaczko and Pete Lyons to provide a stable and fair regulatory environment for today’s nuclear facilities and to provide discipline in new licensing processes as the industry takes steps toward the construction of new nuclear power plants and fuel facilities to meet the nation’s future energy demand.”
The Nuclear Energy Institute is the nuclear energy industry’s policy organization. This news release and additional information about nuclear energy are available on NEI’s Internet site at http://www.nei.org.
