WASHINGTON—The U.S. Senate today confirmed Drs. Dale Klein, Gregory Jaczko and Peter Lyons as commissioners to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Dr. Klein will be designated chairman of the five-member commission when he assumes office on July 1, according to the White House. Drs. Jaczko and Lyons, who already serve on the commission, have been serving under recess appointments. The following is a statement by the Nuclear Energy Institute’s president and chief executive officer, Frank L. “Skip” Bowman.
“The nuclear energy industry congratulates Dr. Klein and Commissioners Jaczko and Lyons on their confirmations. Each of these men has significant technical expertise in this field and can provide the policy leadership to further improve the effectiveness, transparency and predictability of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s regulatory process.
“We look forward to working with them to continue to assure safe, efficient operations at existing nuclear facilities and to license new, advanced-design nuclear power plants and fuel supply facilities that will expand nuclear energy’s role as a key component of the U.S. energy portfolio.”
