WASHINGTON—Michael T. Coyle, vice president of the Nuclear Management Co. (NMC), has joined the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) staff as a loaned executive. NMC, which is based in Hudson, Wis., operates six Upper Midwest nuclear power stations in Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota and Michigan.
Coyle has extensive experience in nuclear power plant management, most recently for two years as site vice president at the Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownsville, Neb. Since 2003, Coyle has served as NMC’s representative to two industry-sponsored advisory committees for developing advanced nuclear reactors. In May he was placed under contract to the University of Chicago in its bid to operate the newly formed Idaho National Laboratory, the nation’s nuclear energy research, development and demonstration laboratory.
“We are very fortunate to have Mike Coyle join our senior management team. He is someone with tremendous depth of experience that will enhance nuclear plant operations expertise at NEI,” said Joe F. Colvin, NEI president and chief executive officer. “NMC is making a significant commitment to the long-term benefit of the industry by sending Mike to take this assignment at NEI.”
Coyle is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy and earned a Master’s of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School. He served in the Navy for 33 years leaving active duty in 1998 with the rank of Rear Admiral.
The Nuclear Energy Institute is the nuclear energy industry’s policy organization. This news release and additional information about nuclear energy are available on NEI’s Internet site at http://www.nei.org.
