Nuclear Energy Institute Re-Elects Poindexter Chairman, Adds Two Members to Board of Directors

WASHINGTON—The Nuclear Energy Institute has re-elected Christian H. Poindexter chairman of its board of directors for a one-year term, effective immediately. NEI also added two new members to its board of directors, re-elected one member, and elected three new members to the board’s Executive Committee.

Newly elected board members, who will serve three-year terms, are:

  • William J. Madia, director, Oak Ridge National Laboratory; and
  • John R. Longenecker, president, Longenecker & Associates.

Thomas A. Christopher , president and chief executive officer, Framatome ANP, was re-elected to the board of directors.

NEI’s board also designated two members to fill their companies’ board seats:



  • Wes M. Taylor, president, Generation Division of TXU Electric, succeeds Erle Nye; and
  • Stephen E. Frank, chairman, president, and chief executive officer, Southern California Edison Co., succeeds John Bryson.

U.S. nuclear power plant licensees and representatives of other companies involved in nuclear technologies are members of the NEI board of directors. Members of the board and its Executive Committee typically serve three-year terms, and officers are elected annually.

Newly elected members of NEI’s Executive Committee, which sets broad policy for the industry, are:

  • Thomas F. Farrell II, chief executive officer, Dominion Energy Inc.;
  • Stephen E. Frank; and
  • Fred M. Petersen, president and chief executive officer, Omaha Public Power District.

Re-elected to the Executive Committee for three-year terms are Anthony F. Earley Jr. , chairman, president and chief executive officer, DTE Energy Co., Oliver D. Kingsley Jr. , president and chief nuclear officer, Exelon Nuclear; Christian H. Poindexter , chairman and chief executive officer, Constellation Energy Group Inc.; and Charles W. Pryor Jr. , president and chief executive officer, Westinghouse Electric Co.

NEI’s Executive Committee members also include:

  • Peter H. Burg, chairman and chief executive officer, FirstEnergy Corp.;
  • William Cavanaugh III, chairman, president and chief executive officer, Progress Energy Inc.;
  • William A. Coley, group president, Duke Power Co.;
  • Joe F. Colvin, president and chief executive officer, NEI;
  • William T. Cottle, president and chief executive officer, STP Nuclear Operating Co.;
  • W. George Hairston III, president and chief executive officer, Southern Nuclear Operating Co.;
  • Donald C. Hintz, president, Entergy Corp.; and
  • William J. Post, chairman of the board and chief executive officer, Pinnacle West Capital Corp.

NEI’s Executive Committee elected John E. Kane as senior vice president for governmental affairs and J. Scott Peterson as vice president for communications. In addition, the following NEI officers were re-elected:
 

  • Joe F. Colvin, president and chief executive officer;
  • Angelina S. Howard, executive vice president;
  • Ralph E. Beedle and Marvin S. Fertel, senior vice presidents;
  • Robert W. Bishop, Linda L. Nahin and Phyllis M. Rich, vice presidents; and
  • Robert W. Bishop, secretary; and
  • Linda L. Nahin, treasurer.
