John Rowe webMr. Rowe is chairman, president and chief executive officer of Exelon Corp. and chairman of the Nuclear Energy Institute.

He has led electric utilities since 1984, serving as CEO of Central Maine Power Co., the New England Electric System and Exelon predecessor Unicom Corp. Mr. Rowe served as general counsel for Consolidated Rail Corp. and was partner in the firm of Isham, Lincoln and Beale.

Mr. Rowe is a member of the boards of the Nuclear Energy Institute, Edison Electric Institute, Institute for Nuclear Power Operations, Sunoco, Northern Trust Co., Illinois Institute of Technology, Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago Urban League, Field Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, Northwestern University and Chicago Club. He also serves on the visiting committees of the Oriental Institute and the University of Pennsylvania Museum.

His civic and professional commitments emphasize historical education and diversity. He serves as chairman of the Chicago Historical Society, chairman of the Mies van der Rohe Society and vice chairman of the Commercial Club of Chicago.

Mr. Rowe is also a member of the boards of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation and WiCell Research, and he has received the university’s Distinguished Alumni Award. He received honorary doctorates from DePaul University, Illinois Institute of Technology, Drexel University, University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth and Bryant College.

He received the Founders Award for business leadership from the Union League of Philadelphia in 2005, a civic leadership award from the American Jewish Committee in 2004, the City Club of Chicago’s Citizen of the Year Award in 2002, the Corporate Leadership Award from the Spanish Coalition for Jobs in 2002 and the Anti-Defamation League’s World of Difference Award in 2000.
