W. Gary Gates

 Gary Gates weMr. Gates has been president and chief executive officer of Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) since 2004.

He began his career at OPPD in 1972. He joined the staff at Fort Calhoun Station two years later and held several positions in the nuclear organization, including reactor engineer, operations supervisor and station manager. In 1989, Mr. Gates became executive assistant to the president and was appointed division manager of nuclear operations the following year. He was promoted to vice president with responsibility for OPPD's nuclear organization in 1992.

Mr. Gates is a member of the boards of several industry organizations, including the World Association of Nuclear Operators, Institute of Nuclear Power Operations and American Nuclear Society. He also serves on the boards of such local organizations as the Knights of Aksarben, Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, Durham Western Heritage Museum, Methodist Hospital, National Safety Council Greater Omaha Chapter, Salvation Army, Governor's Commission on Volunteerism, Offutt Advisory Council, United Way of the Midlands and River City Roundup.

Mr. Gates received a bachelor's degree from Iowa State University, a master's degree in industrial engineering from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and a master's degree in business administration from Creighton University.
