Remarks as prepared for delivery
Thank you. John, and thanks to everyone for inviting me to join you. In my previous life as head of Naval Reactors, I always felt strong ties to Lynchburg and visited BWXT many times. As president of NEI, those ties are even stronger with BWXT and AREVA, so I’m pleased to be here as the region celebrates the 50th anniversary of the local establishment of the nuclear industry. Ever since the opening of the Critical Experiment Laboratory at the Lynchburg Resource Center, this area has been a vital part of our nation’s nuclear infrastructure.
But as proud as we are about past achievements, I’m confident that what the engineers here in Central Virginia—and across America—accomplish over the next 50 years will be even more significant.
I want to talk about that future—a future that you will help build. Thanks to sustained superior performance by the nuclear industry and to conditions in the energy markets, that future looks brighter than in decades.
It is a new day, and we are making a new start. In the United States and around the world, we are relaunching the nuclear energy industry to deliver the baseload electricity America and the world will need.
