NEI Congratulates Bodman on Swift Confirmation as Secretary of Energy
WASHINGTON—
The United States Senate yesterday confirmed Samuel Bodman as Secretary of Energy. The following statement is from Joe F. Colvin, president and chief executive officer of the Nuclear Energy Institute, in response to the Senate’s action:
“The nuclear energy industry congratulates Samuel Bodman on his confirmation, and applauds the United States Senate for acting on his nomination so expeditiously. Secretary Bodman is an accomplished individual who clearly understands the vital role that dependable, affordable energy plays in fostering economic growth and improving quality of life for every American.
“The Department of Energy has a tremendous opportunity in the years ahead to advance U.S. interests with a strong nuclear energy component. National security depends on energy security. This makes it imperative that nuclear energy be an integral part of a diverse U.S. energy portfolio.
“Nuclear energy is critical to our nation’s economic and environmental future. The industry looks forward to working with Secretary Bodman on the Energy Department’s efforts to maximize nuclear energy’s value to the nation – including partnering with industry on new nuclear power plant deployment and making substantial progress toward opening the nation’s used nuclear fuel repository at Yucca Mountain, Nevada.”
