Long Term Operation/Subsequent License Renewal Forum

NEI is hosting a two-day forum to discuss technical, environmental, economic, political and regulatory issues surrounding the operation of nuclear power plants to 80 years and beyond.  Industry, academic and government leaders will lead discussions in the following areas: R&D plans and projects for materials aging research; environmental benefits of continued operation and the consequences of early shutdown; economic analysis and community benefits of long-term operation both from a local, state and national perspective; new technology for extended safe operation; regulatory structure for subsequent license renewal; effective communication strategies; energy supply security and reliability; and international perspectives on long-term operation.  This forum, the first of its kind, will seek to provide the broadest possible view of this important topic and equip the attendee with the most up-to-date and relevant data and perspectives. In addition, networking opportunities will be provided to meet government, research and industry leaders in the long-term operation community of interest.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

The forum is intended for stakeholders interested in the impact of long-term operation including:   utility executives and licensing professionals; DOE, NRC, EPA, EIA, and other federal agency managers and staff; local, state and federal government leaders and staff; national laboratory and university researchers; nuclear plant equipment and services providers; communications and media professionals; environmental professionals; international licensing and regulatory professionals; financial and business leaders; technical society and standards organizations members including ANS, IEEE, APS, ANSI, AWS, ASCE, ASME, and NAS.

WORKSHOP INFORMATION

Registration will begin each day at 7:30 a.m. Forum sessions will be held at the following times:

  • Tuesday, 8:20 a.m.–4:45 p.m.
  • Wednesday, 8:20 a.m.–4 p.m.
NEI will host a welcome reception on Tuesday at 5–6 p.m.

NEI will provide continental breakfast and lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Business casual attire is appropriate.

NEI has a reduced registration fee of $250 for all government and university research attendees. If you are interested in attending as a government attendee, please contact registrar@nei.org to receive the government/university form.

Cancellation Policy:

Please ensure that your registration form is received by Feb. 21, 2013. Registrations received after that day may not appear on the final participants list. A $75 cancellation fee will be applied to all refunds received on or before Feb. 5, 2013. Unfortunately, refunds cannot be provided for cancellations received after Feb. 5, however, we would be pleased to accept a substitute.

Make your hotel reservation directly with the hotel and identify yourself as an attendee of the Nuclear Energy Institute to secure the room rate of $209. A small group of government-rate rooms has been reserved and is available to those attendees who qualify. To guarantee a room and these rates, the reservation must be made by Feb. 4, 2013. After this date, the price and room availability are at the discretion of the hotel.
Hotel cancellations must be made 72 hours prior to scheduled arrival to avoid a room charge. The room rate may be available three days prior and three days after the meeting, based on availability.

Check-in is 4 p.m. and checkout is noon.

Airport: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) is approximately 7 miles from the hotel.

Taxis: Taxis will cost approximately $30 one way.

Metro: The Woodley Park/Adams Morgan Metro Station is approximately .1 miles from the hotel. Fares range from $2-5 one way.

Parking: On-site parking is $34 daily and $39 daily for valet parking.
