Nuclear Energy Industry Welcomes House Approval of Energy Policy Act Conference Report
WASHINGTON—The U.S. House of Representatives today approved the joint Senate-House conference report on H.R. 6, the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Following is a statement from John Kane, the Nuclear Energy Institute’s senior vice president, governmental affairs.

“The strong bipartisan vote supporting the energy bill conference report reflects both the value and balance of this legislation, as well as the leadership of Congressmen Joe Barton and John Dingell. They have done the American people a great service in helping to shape comprehensive energy legislation that will strengthen our nation’s energy and national security.

“The expeditious passage of this well-balanced energy bill by the full House is most welcome. Diversity of energy supplies is vital to our nation’s energy future. This legislation helps provide that diversity, in part through policies that assure that clean, reliable, affordable nuclear energy will remain a key component of our nation’s energy portfolio for generations to come.

“The nuclear energy industry urges members of the Senate to join their counterparts in the House in expeditiously approving the Energy Policy Act conference report and send it to President Bush’s desk for signature.”
