Industry Regards Commissioner McGaffigan As Superb Role Model for Others to Follow
WASHINGTON—
Nuclear Energy Institute President and Chief Executive Officer Frank L. “Skip” Bowman made the following remarks in response to Nuclear Regulatory Commissioner Edward McGaffigan’s announcement that he will leave the agency:
“We are saddened to hear that Commissioner Edward McGaffigan’s battle with metastatic melanoma has led him to announce his resignation from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. In that role, Commissioner McGaffigan has worked tirelessly over the years and has deservedly earned the respect of both the industry and the public.
“He brings a passion and a competency to public service that is a model for others to follow. He has long been a voice of reason determined to implement safety-based regulatory reforms only when those changes are rooted in sound science and engineering.
“We thank Commissioner McGaffigan for his decade of service on the commission. He and his family will be in our thoughts during this difficult time.”
