WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Nuclear Energy Institute yesterday announced a promotion within its executive leadership team.
J. Scott Peterson was elected by the NEI Executive Committee to the position of senior vice president for communications, effective Feb. 9.
In this position, Peterson directs NEI’s communications programs, including media relations, branding/advertising, editorial and creative services, public opinion research, and communications with opinion leaders and NEI members. He also manages the development of the Clean and Safe Energy Coalition and other national and state-based opinion leader outreach that supports the nuclear energy industry.
“Scott has proven strategic management of NEI's public affairs and communications programs that has benefitted our industry, and it transcends many of the key areas of our organization,” said Marvin S. Fertel, NEI president and chief executive officer. “Through his leadership, our industry has implemented a comprehensive public affairs campaign, including communicating the exemplary operation and benefits of nuclear energy facilities and building decision-maker support for the industry’s public policy goals.”
Peterson has held senior management positions during his tenure at NEI, including vice president-communications and senior director for external communications.
Peterson is a member of the board of directors for the Public Affairs Council and NucNet, an international nuclear energy news organization, and serves on the Clean and Safe Energy Coalition’s advisory committee. He also has completed the Reactor Technology Program for Utility Executives at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and is a member of the National Press Club.
