Robert Powers Joins Nuclear Energy Institute as Senior Director of Legislative Programs
WASHINGTON—The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) announced today that Robert Powers is joining the Institute as senior director of legislative programs. Powers was formerly the legislative director for the AFL-CIO’s Building and Construction Trades Department.
“Bob has been terrific to work with as we have coordinated the efforts of NEI and labor. It simply became evident that with as much opportunity as we now see for the nuclear industry, and all the jobs and development that entails, we need people with Bob’s broad experience to help meet our future energy challenges,” said Alex Flint, NEI’s senior vice president of government affairs.
Powers brings 20 years of government relations experience to NEI, including a proven record of communicating vital issues to key members of Congress and their staff. During his tenure at the AFL-CIO, his legislative work focused on transportation, energy, environmental, health care, finance and military transition issues.
In addition to his Capitol Hill activities, Powers also organized the Building Trades’ annual legislative meeting, briefed elected officers and governing board members and managed the group’s political action committee.
In the past, Powers also served as policy advisor to the chair of the Democratic National Committee. He was also the legislative director for former Pennsylvania Congressman Joseph Kolter.
Powers is active in the Mount Vernon Citizens Association, Cub Scout Pack 154 and other programs that serve both seniors and children in his community.
