June 23 Media Briefing in Chicago. Nuclear Energy Industry To Report On Progress Toward Y2K Readines
WASHINGTON—
The U.S. nuclear energy industry is nearing completion of a two-year program to prepare its 103 nuclear power plants to safely generate electricity at the start of the year 2000.
On June 23, the executive in charge of the nuclear energy industry's Y2K readiness initiative will report on its progress on a coordinated, comprehensive approach to assuring continued safe operation of the nuclear power plants that meet one-fifth of the United States' electricity needs.
