U.S. Public Support for Nuclear Energy Soars to Record High

A national public opinion survey September 18-21 finds an unprecedented leap in support for nuclear energy.   A record high 74 percent favor nuclear energy, compared with 63 percent in an April survey of U.S. adults.  Only 10 percent are strongly opposed, down from 14 percent in April. Although both Barack Obama and John McCain include nuclear energy in their energy plans for the future, many people are not aware of that fact.  Only 50 percent think that John McCain includes nuclear energy, and only 37 percent believe that Barack Obama does so.
