Summary of DOE Strategy for the Management and Disposal of Used Nuclear Fuel and High-Level Radioactive Waste, Jan. 10, 2012
The Department of Energy’s strategy is meant to provide a framework for a sustainable management program for used nuclear fuel and high-level radioactive waste from civilian and defense activities. The strategy is a statement of Administration policy and an official response to the Blue Ribbon Commission’s final report and recommendations. This strategy is also a response to language in the Consolidated Appropriations Act 2012 that directed the Administration to develop a used fuel management strategy. This strategy is the starting point for dialogue among the Administration, Congress and other stakeholders.
