Summary
Estimated U.S. nuclear generation in April 2013 was 56.4 billion kWh, compared to 55.9 billion kWh for the same period in 2012. The average estimated capacity factor for April 2013 was 77.8 percent compared to 76.9 percent in April 2012. Total nuclear generation for the first four months of 2013 is 0.5 percent lower than the same period in 2012.
The average refueling outage duration for 28 out of the 32 units that have refueled during Spring 2013 was 36 days compared to 49 days from 31 units that refueled during Spring 2012.
For the first four months of 2013, the 35 boiling water reactors achieved an average capacity factor of 88.1% compared to 86.8% by the 68 pressurized water reactors.
