The South Dakota Legislature passed a resolution "supporting the development of nuclear power" in the state to "decrease our dependence on foreign oil" and promote "economic development through the creation of jobs and tax revenues and the availability of a stable and reliable source of energy." The resolution also encourages research and academic institutions to continue to study nuclear technology.
