Mergers and Acquisitions
Exelon Corporation merged with Constellation Energy in March 2012. The merged company is called Exelon Corporation. As a result of this transaction, Exelon acquired Constellation's 50.01 percent ownership of Constellation Energy Nuclear Group (CENG), which operates 5 nuclear plants (Calvert Cliffs 1 & 2, Ginna, Nine Mile Point 1 & 2). EDF owns the remaining 49.99 percent of CENG.
TXU Corp. / Texas Energy Future Holdings Limited Partnership (TEF), October 2007, 2 reactors total; TXU Corp's new name is "Energy Future Holdings Corp." The power generation entity under the merged company is Luminant which now owns and operates Comanche Peak (2).
NRG Energy Inc. purchased Texas Genco LLC, February 2006, two reactors total: South Texas Project (2).
Exelon purchased British Energy's 50 percent interest in AmerGen, December 2003, three reactors total: Clinton (1), Oyster Creek (1), Three Mile Island (1)
Commonwealth Edison-Unicom (IL) / PECO Energy Company (PA), October 2000, 17 reactors total; merged company's name is "Exelon". Exelon 17 reactors: Braidwood (2), Byron (2), Clinton (1), Dresden (2), LaSalle (2), Limerick (2), Oyster Creek (1), Peach Bottom (2), Quad Cities (2), Three Mile Island (1)
Carolina Power & Light (NC) / Florida Progress Corp. (FL), November 2000, five reactors total; merged company's name is "Progress Energy Inc." Progress Energy five reactors: Brunswick (2), Crystal River (1), Harris (1), Robinson (1)
Consolidations
Nuclear Management Company was formed in February 1999 to operate six plants (Duane Arnold (IA), Point Beach (WI), Kewaunee (WI), Prairie Island (MN), Monticello (MN), and Palisades (MI)). Since then, FPL Group (now called NextEra Energy, Inc.) acquired and now owns Duane Arnold and Point Beach, operating them through a subsidiary, NextEra Energy Resources, LLC. Dominion owns and operates Kewaunee, and Entergy owns and operates Palisades. Xcel Energy's subsidiary, Northern States Power Company, operates Prairie Island and Monticello.
