10 CFR 50.59 Digital I&C Screening and Evaluation Training

November 15-17, 2022 | Virtual

Be prepared to implement digital modifications at your facility by attending NEI's 50.59 Digital I&C Training.

NEI and LeBlond & Associates have teamed up to offer a virtual live training session on 50.59 digital instrumentation and control nuances.  The training is structured in two modules:
  • Screening Module: During this one-day, six-hour session, you will review concepts like safe and effective, design functions, and adverse effects in a digital I&C 50.59 context (e.g., combining functions, human factors, engineering evaluations), as described in NEI 96-07, Appendix D that was endorsed by the NRC via RG 1.187.
  • Evaluation Module: During this two-day, nine-hour module, you will review concepts like redundancy versus single failure, sufficiently low likelihood, and the eight 50.59 criteria in a digital I&C context (e.g., software common cause failure effects on criteria 1, 2, 5 and 6), as described in NEI 96-07, Appendix D that was endorsed by the NRC via RG 1.187.

Seats are limited to ensure a quality training experience and have quickly sold out in the past, so register early.

Who Should Attend

  • 50.59 Screening and/or Evaluation qualified personnel:
  • licensing engineers
  • design engineers participating in digital plant changes
  • I&C engineers participating in digital plant changes.
  • This event is closed to the press.

This event is closed to the press.

Schedule of Events

Training modules are offered individually but can be taken together to fit your needs. The content of Module 2 does build upon some of the fundamentals covered in Module 1, so please take that into consideration during the registration process.

Screening Module

During the single day, six-hour module, you will review “safe and effective,” “design functions” and “adverse effects” concepts in a digital I&C context (e.g., combining functions, human factors, engineering evaluations.)

Evaluation Module

Over the course of two days, this nine-hour module will review “redundancy versus single failure,” “sufficiently low likelihood” and the eight 50.59 criterion in a digital I&C context.
