LMP Construction Workshop

May 1-2, 2024 | Washington, DC

2024 is an exciting year for new nuclear with the first Construction Permit Applications being submitted to the NRC for commercial non-light-water reactors that following the Licensing Modernization Process (LMP). NEI is hosting a LMP Construction Workshop to celebrate milestones and align on whether any gaps exist that need to be addressed to ensure a smooth next stage of deploying these designs using LMP. The goal of the meeting is to bring together advanced reactor (AR) stakeholders to achieve:
  • Alignment across organizations on challenges and successes of LMP guidance related to constructing new nuclear plants
  • Identification of common challenges which may provide input to future regulatory modernization efforts
  • Discuss industry’s previous experiences licensing during construction, and how those can be applied to projects that will use LMP
This meeting will build off the successful LMP, Technology Inclusive Content of Application (TICAP), and Technology Inclusive Risk Informed Change Evaluation (TIRICE) work that resulted in RG 1.233 and draft RG 1.253. This meeting intends to discuss whether any additional guidance is needed for using LMP to maximize efficiencies in construction and construction oversight. This additional scope may include the following or other topics:
  • Changes to the licensing basis during construction
  • The NRC AR Construction Oversight Process (ARCOP)
  • Risk Informed (RI) QA during construction
  • LMP implications for design and construction Codes and Standards (C&S)
  • Any other topics related to construction brought up to address on an industry-wide basis
