Korsnick Praises US Commitment to Completing Plant Vogtle Project

Press Release
Build New Reactors

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Energy Secretary Rick Perry today conditionally committed up to $3.7 billion in loan guarantees to the owners of Alvin W. Vogtle Electric Generating Plant so they can continue to build two new nuclear reactors at the station. The following statement is from Maria Korsnick, president and chief executive officer of the Nuclear Energy Institute.

"We applaud Secretary Perry’s decision to extend up to $3.7 billion in additional loan guarantees to support completion of the construction of two Westinghouse AP1000 reactors at Plant Vogtle in Georgia. The twin reactors being built there are the only advanced reactors currently being built in the U.S. and their completion is absolutely critical to help maintain American leadership in nuclear technology.

"To achieve energy dominance America must have a vibrant and robust domestic nuclear energy industry, and that means building new reactors at Plant Vogtle.

"The Trump administration is taking critical action to support a significant infrastructure project that provides thousands of jobs, needed tax revenue to support schools, hospitals and community needs and ultimately provide clean and reliable energy for our nation. Secretary Perry and the administration deserve praise for making such a foresighted investment in America’s future."
