DOE Support for Advanced Nuclear Technology Is Critical for America’s Energy Future

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The U.S. Department of Energy funding announcement today by Energy Secretary Rick Perry of $60 million for 13 advanced nuclear technology projects is significant for U.S. global competitiveness, as well as America’s leadership in a critical energy sector. The 13 projects are the first in a new DOE Office of Nuclear Energy program to support advanced nuclear technology over the next five years.

“We congratulate the companies selected to receive DOE support for developing advanced nuclear technology, which has enormous potential for meeting our nation’s future energy needs in a clean, reliable way,” said John Kotek, vice president for policy and public affairs. “DOE investment in innovative technology was essential to unlocking revolutionary energy technology, ranging from solar to wind to shale gas to the first generation of nuclear energy technology. We are pleased to see continued DOE support for advanced nuclear projects, which have enormous, game-changing potential. With Russia and China forging ahead aggressively with a range of advanced nuclear projects, we commend DOE for recognizing the importance of advanced nuclear technology in America’s energy strategy.” 

DOE awarded funding to projects from the following companies: X-energy, NuScale Power, Elysium Industries USA, BWXT Nuclear Energy Inc., NuVision Engineering Inc., Analysis and Measurement Services Corp., General Atomics, Terrestrial Energy USA, Vega Wave Systems Inc., Oklo Inc., Urbix Resources, and ThorCon US Inc.
