WASHINGTON, D.C.—Douglas E. (Doug) True, a veteran of the nuclear industry with more than 30 years of experience at the global engineering and consulting firm Jensen Hughes, is joining the Nuclear Energy Institute as senior vice president & chief nuclear officer on Sept. 24. True will be responsible for executive oversight of all aspects of NEI's nuclear operations including emergency planning, risk assessment, used fuel programs, radiation safety, environmental protection and fuel and materials safety.
True is leaving his post as executive vice president of Jensen Hughes’ Power Services Group. In this position he was responsible for the company’s support of the power industry through a broad range of analysis, testing, design and research consulting services. True has served on the NEI board of directors since 2016, and has been a contributor to NEI, Electric Power Research Institute, Institute of Nuclear Power Operations and federal government guidance on technical and regulatory issues.
True is replacing John W. (Bill) Pitesa, who is serving in the role of NEI’s chief nuclear officer as a loaned executive from Duke Energy. Pitesa will remain at NEI until Dec. 1 to transition the role to True.
“I am excited that Doug is joining the NEI team,” said Maria Korsnick, president and chief executive officer of NEI. “Doug brings tremendous experience that will help the industry maintain the high standards with which we operate today’s nuclear fleet and help deliver the nuclear fleet of tomorrow. His expertise with the supply chain gives him a complete understanding of the technical and regulatory aspects of the entire industry.”
"Never has the work of NEI been more crucial," True said. "I look forward to joining a talented team dedicated to ensuring that nuclear energy is recognized for providing fuel diversity, supporting national security, and contributing to the nation’s clean air power. At the core of this effort is a mission to guarantee the country’s nuclear fleet continues to operate safely and efficiently."
“NEI and the industry are grateful to Bill Pitesa and Duke Energy,” said Korsnick. “Bill’s leadership and expertise during his time as a loaned executive have been invaluable.”
True earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
