WASHINGTON, D.C.—The United States Senate last week confirmed Nuclear Energy Institute’s Melissa Burnison to be the Department of Energy’s assistant secretary for congressional and intergovernmental affairs. Burnison has served as NEI’s director of federal affairs since 2014.

Burnison brings to the Trump administration significant experience and a deep understanding of Congress, DOE and energy issues. Before joining NEI, Burnison served as a senior advisor at DOE and at the House Natural Resources Committee. She also served as legislative director for Rep. Zach Wamp (R-Tenn.), with a special focus on DOE and nuclear science programs.

“The Trump administration and Energy Secretary Perry are bringing aboard a distinctly passionate and dedicated advocate for a secure and stable American energy future in Melissa Burnison,” said Maria Korsnick, president and chief executive officer at the Nuclear Energy Institute. “Melissa’s expertise on the legislative process and her championing of DOE research and development programs have helped make significant advances for nuclear energy.

“Secretary Perry and the American people will be well served by Melissa’s tireless work and commitment to energy policy,” Korsnick added.
