Washington, D.C. – Today, Washington Gov. Inslee signed into law SB 5116, which would require all electricity to come from zero-carbon sources by 2045. The following can be attributed to Maria Korsnick, president and CEO of the Nuclear Energy Institute.
“We commend Gov. Inslee for signing into law a climate bill that would commit the state to receive all its electricity from clean sources, including nuclear. As the largest source of zero-carbon energy in the nation, nuclear energy will rightfully play a critical role in helping Washington meet its climate goals.
“The legislation also signals a growing trend in favor of a technology-neutral approach and can be a model for other states developing their own energy policies. As the national debate continues around combatting climate change, we are encouraged that more states like Washington are taking important steps to debate and implement policies that would meet our shared goal to lower emissions.”
