PSEG’s Izzo Named Chair of NEI Board; Dominion's Koonce Named Vice Chair

Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C.— The Nuclear Energy Institute announces Dr. Ralph Izzo, chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer of Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG), as incoming chairman of its board of directors. Mr. Paul D. Koonce, executive vice president and president and CEO of Dominion Energy’s Power Generation Group, will serve as vice chairman of the board.

Dr. Izzo and Mr. Koonce replace outgoing NEI board chairman Mr. Donald E. Brandt, chairman of the board, president and CEO of Pinnacle West Capital Corp., and vice chairman Mr. William D. Johnson, president and CEO of Tennessee Valley Authority. In these roles, Dr. Izzo and Mr. Koonce will guide the board of directors in providing oversight and leadership to NEI on business and policy affairs on behalf of the U.S. nuclear industry.

The elections took place Feb. 4, 2019 during the organization’s executive committee meeting. The NEI executive committee sets broad policy for the nuclear energy industry, which operates 98 nuclear power plants in 30 states that supply more than 55 percent of America’s carbon free electricity.

Executives from all companies that hold licenses to operate nuclear energy facilities and selected representatives of other companies involved in commercial nuclear technologies are members of NEI’s board of directors. Members of the executive committee and the board’s non-utility members typically serve three-year terms, and officers are elected annually.
