NEI’s Maria Korsnick sat down with Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) on his new podcast “We Hold These Truths” to discuss some of the misconceptions of nuclear energy that come from popular televisions programs such as “The Simpsons” and HBO’s “Chernobyl.” One surprising thing that many Americans don’t know about nuclear energy, Korsnick told Crenshaw, is that it is the country’s largest carbon-free source—producing electricity around-the-clock without emissions.
Their conversation turned to nuclear energy’s growing importance as the United States moves toward a low-carbon energy system. Even with nuclear energy’s many advantages, Maria noted that achieving a carbon-free future will require teamwork:
What we need is a partnership between wind, solar and batteries, and a carbon-free source like nuclear power that can always be there. It’s really all of that working together.
