On Feb. 11, 2020, NEI submitted comments to the Maryland Senate Finance Committee on the Clean and Renewable Energy Standard (CARES) proposal. The comments commend Gov. Larry Hogan and the Maryland Legislature for showing leadership in creating a clean electricity future for the state and urges them to amend the proposal to include provisions that also support existing nuclear energy, in addition to new nuclear resources.

This is an ambitious target and achieving this goal while minimizing the impact on Maryland consumers will require the state to draw upon all of the carbon-free sources of electricity available. To this end, the Nuclear Energy Institute applauds the inclusion of nuclear energy as part of the portfolio of non-emitting technologies.
