Delivering the Nuclear Promise

EO 19-RP-02: Self Protection for Radiological Work Activities

Through this efficiency opportunity, trained and qualified workers will be authorized to perform self-briefings and self-monitoring for select activities, improving worker efficiency while increasing radiation protection (RP) resource availability to support oversight of higher risk tasks. Initial training and qualification as well as annual continued training will be conducted using the Systematic Approach to Training (SAT) process.

As greater attention is paid to climate issues, a growing number of thought leaders are weighing in on effective policy solutions. The urgency of this moment calls for a technology-neutral approach that values all carbon-free sources of power generation—including nuclear—to prevent further impacts from climate change. Top media and media opinion leaders are making the case for nuclear as critical to policy remedies.

This is a letter, dated Dec. 4, 2018, from a broad coalition of labor unions, state public service commissioners, clean energy organizations, and energy trade associations, urging Congress to revitalize the federal used nuclear fuel program.

It concludes that adjustments can and should be made to optimize the change process and provide the flexibility licensees need to construct new nuclear plants. This would allow for changes that are expected and inevitable in such large and complex projects.

Sierra Club and Natural Resource Defense Council joined NEI and others in filing these comments to FERC on its proposed resource-specific fixed-resource requirement mechanism, asking the commission to “preserve states’ ability to achieve clean energy goals,” including zero-emission credit programs.
