The study, ‘The Market Impact of Proposed U.S. Uranium Import Quotas on the U.S. Nuclear Power Industry,’ produced by the NorthBridge Group, suggests that a proposed quota would impose an additional $500 to $800 million per year costs on U.S. nuclear power generators.

This is a letter from NEI, dated July 11, 2018, to the House Energy & Commerce Committee, in support of three nuclear bills: the NUKE Act (HR 1320), the Advanced Nuclear Fuel Availability Act (HR 6140), and the Advancing US Civil Nuclear Competitiveness and Jobs Act.

Letter from NEI to DOE Secretary Perry on the need for a supply of high-assay low-enriched uranium for future advanced reactors.

A letter from a group of former U.S. statesmen, flag officers, generals, national security officials and industry leaders makes a strong endorsement of nuclear energy’s national security importance and implores Secretary Perry to take immediate action to prevent the closure of reactors.

NEI commissioned ICF to perform an analysis of how energy infrastructure disruptions in PJM, combined with continued nuclear power plant retirements, would impact system resiliency. NEI specified the scenarios for the analysis and the key assumptions for those scenarios. The results of this analysis show nuclear power’s critical role in providing a reliable and resilient supply of electricity.

Resilience, and the need to appropriately compensate generating units that support a resilient grid, should be among the commission’s highest priorities. NEI urges timely action to stem the early retirement of nuclear units whose continued operation supports a resilient grid.
