Washington, D.C.—Statement from Maria Korsnick, president and CEO of Nuclear Energy Institute, on the inclusion of the Nuclear Fuel Security Act in the National Defense Authorization Act:
“We thank Senate and House leadership, the leadership of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and the House Energy and Commerce Committee for their critical work on the Nuclear Fuel Security Act, which was included in the National Defense Authorization Act to support expansion of our domestic nuclear fuel supply.
This bill is a critical step in advancing a reliable and secure domestic fuel cycle to operate clean nuclear energy plants in the U.S. while also meeting the surging demand for new nuclear. Not only will this advance our country’s decarbonization goals but also strengthen our national security.
The authorization in the NDAA needs to be followed by appropriation of the funds needed to accelerate our domestic enrichment and conversion capabilities. We are eager to continue working with the Biden Administration, Congress, and our industry partners to advance the expansion of our fuel supply capacity in the new year.”
