Nuclear Fuel

Washington, D.C.—Statement from Maria Korsnick, president and CEO of Nuclear Energy Institute, on the Prohibiting Russian Uranium Imports Act introduced by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce:

"I am encouraged by Congressional support of HR 1042 and grateful to committee leadership in the House and Senate for their support. I hope that it is swiftly enacted into law along with the necessary federal support to expand domestic production. The U.S. commercial nuclear industry is committed to transitioning to a secure domestic nuclear fuel supply, and this bill is an important step toward that goal.

The nuclear power industry plays a vital role in our nation’s clean energy economy, but a reliable domestic fuel supply is imperative to make it all work. Not only will this advance our country’s decarbonization goals but also strengthen our national security.

We look forward to continuing to work with Congress to ensure that our industry has the domestic fuel infrastructure required to sustain and expand the country’s clean, around-the-clock nuclear energy."
