Where was I? Climate Week NYC—a week of climate-focused events that take place across New York City. The event intentionally overlaps with the U.N. General Assembly, so attendees are from around the globe.

What was going on? NEI sponsored two events during this year’s Climate Week: a collaboration with Time for Better’s Hope House that brought the nuclear narrative to young climate influencers and a clean energy financing panel during Foreign Policy’s Energy Forum.

Lightning round!

  • Favorite meal: It’s New York, so what meal wasn’t fab? But the highlight was soup dumplings (xiao long bao) at Din Tai Fung. They were admittedly so delish that we enjoyed them two nights in a row…
  • Notable quote or highlight: “We’ve been in the space of nuclear for over a generation—65,000 families depend on this industry. Ontario Power Generation has built a legacy of engaging both indigenous and local communities and giving them a say. We make sure we are instilling a sense of pride within our energy space. We create pathways for children—particularly girls—to enter into science with an emphasis on nuclear. Across the board, we are leaning in.” – Hon. Stephen Lecce, Minister of Energy and Electrification for Ontario, at the Foreign Policy Energy Forum
  • Something you learned: Visiting the Nest Climate Campus was a highlight of my trip and there I learned that while the cost of decarbonization is significant, estimates suggest that climate action could create nearly $1 trillion of additional economic output by 2070 compared with business as usual.
