The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Douglas Weaver to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, bringing the agency back to its full complement of five commissioners. The following is a statement from Maria Korsnick, president and chief executive officer of the Nuclear Energy Institute:
"NEI congratulates Douglas Weaver on his confirmation to serve on the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). Commissioner Weaver brings a remarkable record of over three decades of nuclear energy experience, including nearly two decades in senior roles at the NRC itself. His confirmation returns the Commission to its full five-member complement.
"We look forward to working with Commissioner Weaver and are confident his experience will benefit the Commission as the agency modernizes its regulatory framework. This effort will help deliver additional clean, reliable nuclear energy to communities with greater speed and efficiency while maintaining the NRC’s rigorous safety standards."
