The Senate today voted to confirm John Jovanovic as President and Chairman of the Export-Import Bank of the United States and Ted Garrish as Assistant Secretary of Energy for Nuclear Energy. The following statement can be attributed to Maria Korsnick, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Nuclear Energy Institute:
“We applaud the Senate for confirming John Jovanovic and Ted Garrish to these important posts. Both bring deep experience and leadership that will directly support U.S. nuclear technologies at home and abroad.
“John Jovanovic brings strong credentials in finance and trade that will help ensure American advanced nuclear technologies succeed on a level playing field against state-backed enterprises. His focus on supporting U.S. exporters will be critical to building U.S. energy dominance, securing international export opportunities, and strengthening American supply chains.
“Ted Garrish has deep knowledge of domestic nuclear policy and international engagement. With more than four decades of service across the Department of Energy and other leadership roles in government, he is uniquely prepared to advance the development and deployment of advanced reactors, extend the life and performance of today’s nuclear fleet, and address long-standing issues in the nuclear fuel cycle and supply chain that allows new nuclear capacity to keep pace with future power demands.
“Their confirmations come at a pivotal time. Demand for reliable, clean baseload power is rising in the United States and around the world, and U.S. nuclear energy companies are well-positioned to deliver solutions. NEI looks forward to working with Mr. Jovanovic and Mr. Garrish to ensure that nuclear energy continues to serve as the backbone of a clean, reliable, and secure energy future.”
