Michael Flannigan Joins NEI as Vice President of Governmental Affairs

Press Release

Washington, D.C.—Michael Flannigan is joining the Nuclear Energy Institute as vice president of governmental affairs on May 22. Flannigan will be responsible for executive oversight of all aspects of NEI's federal and state government activities including legislative strategy, grassroots activation, the NEI political action committee, and staff leadership of Governmental Affairs Advisory Committee.

Flannigan is leaving his post as managing director of Bondi Partners, a consulting firm providing geopolitical and economic counsel to a wide range of international clients. In this position he provided political and legislative insight and developed communication strategies for clients’ interest globally and in the nation’s capital. Flannigan held prior senior government affair positions with Peabody and Rio Tinto, and on Capitol Hill with the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.

Flannigan is replacing Beverly Marshall, who is retiring at the end of May after serving in the role of NEI vice president of governmental affairs for eight years.

“I am excited that Michael is joining the NEI team,” said Maria Korsnick, president and chief executive officer of NEI. “Nuclear carbon-free energy receives bipartisan support in Washington, and there is unprecedented interest globally in nuclear technologies as a climate and energy security solution. Michael brings not only a deep understanding of the federal legislative landscape but also tremendous experience in global policy that will help the industry continue its advocacy of policy that recognizes nuclear energy’s role in a clean energy transition.”

"Never has the work of NEI been more crucial," Flannigan said. "I look forward to joining a talented team dedicated to ensuring that nuclear energy is supported in Washington, D.C., in statehouses and in capitals around the world. I welcome the opportunity to help bring the promise of nuclear energy to communities throughout the United States and around the globe."

“NEI and the industry are grateful for the valuable contributions of Beverly Marshall to advance our legislative and international policy goals,” said Korsnick. “Beverly’s leadership and expertise have helped deliver some of the most meaningful legislation in decades.”

Flannigan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in political science from the University of Oregon and a Master of policy management from Georgetown University.
