NEI Elects Members to Board of Directors

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) elected four new members to its board of directors. The election took place during the NEI board of directors meeting on January 19, 2023. 

Elected to the board of directors are:

  • Mason Baker – CEO and general manager, Utah Associated Municipal Power Systems (UAMPS)​

    Mr. Baker joined UAMPS in 2011 as chief legal officer and general counsel, and has spent the last 11 years involved in every aspect of UAMPS’ operations and its electric generation projects. He has played a key role in the development of UAMPS’ Carbon Free Power Project (CFPP), which is on track to become the first small modular nuclear reactor project in the country. Mr. Baker began serving as the CEO and general manager of UAMPS on Jan. 1, 2023.

  • Kenneth Cooper – international president, International Brotherhood of Electrical (IBEW)

    Mr. Cooper began his IBEW career at Mansfield, Ohio, Local 688 in 1985. After serving in multiple local and international leadership positions, he was appointed international vice president of the union’s Fourth District in 2011. In May 2017, he was named the IBEW’s international secretary-treasurer. Mr. Cooper currently serves as the union’s international president. 

  • Ken Hartwick – president and CEO, Ontario Power Generation (OPG) 

    Mr. Hartwick joined OPG as CFO and SVP of finance in March 2016. He was appointed president and CEO in April 2019. Under Mr. Hartwick’s tenure, OPG has released its first-ever Climate Change Plan, advanced its electrification efforts through the Ivy charging partnership and PowerON subsidiary, launched a Reconciliation Action Plan, and is currently leading the development of North America’s first small modular reactor. The company is also undertaking multibillion-dollar overhauls of its hydroelectric and Darlington Nuclear generating stations. 

  • Victor Suchodolski – chairman, president and CEO, Sargent & Lundy 

    Mr. Suchodolski is Sargent & Lundy’s chairman, president and CEO. He joined the firm in 1997 as an electrical project engineer. Early in his career at the firm, Mr. Suchodolski supported Sargent & Lundy’s nuclear power business through multi-disciplined project work, as well as the firm’s energy and industrial projects related to Simple Cycle Peaker Units. In 2011, he was promoted to senior vice president with oversight of both power delivery and nuclear power projects. Most recently, he served as the executive vice president and director of Sargent & Lundy’s electrical grid infrastructure services. He was promoted to CEO in January 2023.

The NEI board of directors is composed of executives from companies that hold licenses to operate nuclear energy facilities and selected representatives of other companies involved in commercial nuclear technologies.
