Statement from Michael Flannigan, vice president of governmental affairs at the Nuclear Energy Institute:
“The Department of Energy Loan Programs Office (LPO) has been crucial to efforts to meet growing energy demand by supporting the addition of reliable nuclear generation and the deployment advanced nuclear technologies. Last month LPO provided critical funds to restart the Palisades nuclear plant in Michigan, and the first two advanced nuclear reactors built in the U.S., Vogtle Units 3 and 4 in Georgia, relied on funding from the program.
“Congress should preserve the ability of the Office to partner with private industry to meet the Administration’s goals of energy dominance and develop a secure, reliable electric grid. The nuclear industry will continue to work with both chambers to ensure the final language in the budget reconciliation bill supports the nuclear energy priorities of this Congress and Administration.”
