Though Barbenheimer memes dominated the news cycle for roughly 6 months, nuclear still had a big year. From nuclear being a climate solution to strong, bipartisan support for nuclear policies across the United States to how nuclear energy can change the fashion industry - support for nuclear continues to grow, and we were here to capture it all. As this exciting year comes to an end, let’s take a look at our top blogs from 2023.
1. State of the Nuclear Energy Industry 2023
This year’s most popular blog was coverage of the Nuclear Energy Assembly, where NEI President and CEO Maria Korsnick presented industry policy and priorities and gave some perspective on the future of nuclear energy. Give it a look if you haven’t already, or if you just loved it enough to look twice!
2. Is the NRC Ready to Meet the Moment?
Creating a clean energy future is going to be a team effort. Earlier this year, we talked about how the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) lies directly on the path to a carbon-free future powered by nuclear - and how the NRC can meet this big moment.
3. What’s Next for Nuclear Energy in 2023?
We started the year by talking about what was next to come. We covered new units coming online (like Vogtle Power Plant Unit 3), the expanding nuclear workforce, nuclear power financing, public investment, U.S. leadership in nuclear innovation, and more. As we close out 2023, it can be useful to reflect on what we expected out of the year as well as all the wins.
4. Everyone Wants Clean Hydrogen—Nuclear Can Deliver
One of the ways we can massively decrease emissions from things like transportation or manufacturing is through hydrogen. Unfortunately, current hydrogen production relies largely on natural gas...which emits carbon. Luckily, we can produce hydrogen using clean nuclear energy. If hydrogen is new to you, give this a read and share to get caught up.
5. Is Climate Getting People Off the Nuclear Fence?
Coming in at number 5 is the blog for Episode 2 of our podcast, Fissionary. This episode’s guest was Lindsey Walter, the director of international policy for Third Way’s Climate and Energy program and co-founder of Carbon-Free Europe, an initiative that provides analysis on technology-inclusive policy in the EU and UK. She talked about her work in the US and EU and explained why nuclear is so important for the climate movement. If you haven’t already, make sure you tune into our award-winning podcast. Episode 8 comes out next week, so be sure to smash that subscribe button.
We hope you end your year the way we started ours—with confidence in the nuclear industry. And with Barbenheimer memes.
